A clevis hanger carries the pipe in a shaped mild-steel strap suspended from a yoke and cross bolt, so the piping can be levelled from the hanger rod after installation. The lower nut sets the elevation and the locked upper nut keeps the assembly from loosening under vibration, which is why consultants specify this type for long suspended runs of chilled water, domestic water, and sprinkler piping.
