Air enters every chilled and hot water HVAC system — during filling, through make-up water, and out of solution as temperature and pressure change. Once it collects, it reduces heat transfer across coils, causes corrosion, and drives premature wear on pumps and heat exchangers. Venting it properly is what keeps the plant performing to its design duty.

The TEMBO automatic air vent is a full brass unit with a leakproof float that opens as air accumulates and closes against water. It is supplied complete with a check valve, so the vent body can be removed and serviced without isolating or draining the section — the check valve holds the system while the vent is off. The outlet carries a flare metal connection so a drip pipe can be run to the nearest drain instead of discharging over the plant.

Connection is 3/8" or 3/4", the check valve is 1/2" MPT, and the unit is rated to 15 bar (217 psi) and 120°C, covering chilled water, LTHW, and condenser circuits.

01Where should automatic air vents be installed?

TEMBO recommends them at the top of air bottles, air vessels and air separators; at all high points of the piping system; and at the top of cooling coils, evaporators, and radiators. Those are the points where air collects as the system fills and operates.

02Why does trapped air matter in a chilled water system?

Air adversely impacts heat transfer and causes corrosion, which leads to premature wear of components. Effective venting is what protects the performance of the heat exchanger equipment and keeps maintenance costs down.

03Does the vent need a separate isolation valve?

No. The vent is supplied complete with a check valve, which holds system pressure when the vent body is removed. That means the unit can be serviced or replaced without a separate isolation valve and without draining the section.

04What happens to the water discharged from the vent?

The outlet has a flare metal connection so a drip pipe can be led directly to the nearest drain, rather than letting the discharge fall onto the plant, insulation, or ceiling below.
